“ 1/23/25: this is THE place for Italian delicacies, sandwiches, hot food, deli cold cuts, olives, etc. and catering, as well. The people behind the counter know their products and are more than willing to help and deliver exactly what you ask for. At too many deli counters the staff can't slice cold cuts "thinly" and evenly. Here they are practically translucent. See the photos. Dave, the owner the late Mike's son, has trained the staff well. I miss coming here on a whim, when I lived not far away. ”
“ As an Italian American I can safely say this is the best Italian deli in New York City! I'm only upset I haven't visited sooner. The big Mike Combo was by far the best hero sandwich I've ever had! Everything was perfectly proportioned and every bite had the perfect amount of every ingredient. The roll was perfectly soft and tender inside and perfect crispness on the outside. Just fantastic! The linguine carbonara was as good as any high-end Italian restaurant and I was shocked how superb it was for just a casual deli. Again, everything came together flawlessly. The pasta was cooked to s perfect al-dente. The sauce wasn't too thin or thick. Just wonderful! Service was warm and friendly. We were even asked by the owner how everything was. Though our empty plates obviously proved everything was great! This is a must visit if you're in the mood for the best Italian sandwiches you'll find anywhere and anything else Italian you desire. You can't go wrong.. ”
“ Finally ordered the Big Boy Brooks on focaccia. Spicy porchetta, smoked mozzarella, and went with the sweet peppers rather than hot. Paid the extra two dollars to get it fully loaded and definitely worth it. I'm a big guy and was only able to finish half for lunch. Get it with the shoestring fries. Thank you Mike Greco for creating this amazing sandwich !!! ”
“ It's perfect for what it is - a deli featuring a huge variety of salami and other terrific stuff. Today I picked up a wedge of pecorino crusted with walnuts. Intense and wonderful. And of course some cherry peppers stuffed with parmesan and prosciutto, a perfect, spicy wake-up call to the taste buds. But what I go back for, again and again, is an incredible sandwich: sopresetta, mozarella, roasted peppers, lettuce, and tomato on a roll with oil and vinegar. It is the tops, and if Cole Porter had ever had one, he would have included it in his hit song, "You're the Top," along with the "nimble tread of the feed of Fred Astaire," among other blessings the world has given us. Oh - and the roast beef is divine. ”
“ The 2024 Macy's Flower Show featuring DIOR was as much underwhelming as the 2024 New York Botanical Garden's Orchid Show, but after I was able to visit Arthur Avenue | Little Italy in the Bronx, New York for the first time. Arthur Avenue is walking distance from the NYBG. Both Arthur Avenue Retail Market and Eataly are Italian specialty foods shops with restaurant/food vendors. The Arthur Avenue Retail Market is strong, real Italian vibes, family feel, colorful, fiery, raucous, and frenetic, whereas Eataly is gentrified and tame. I had fun exploring Bronx's Little Italy and the Arthur Avenue Retail Market but bored to tears at times at any chain of Eataly. Mike's Deli, full of the Italian deli tradition, inside the Arthur Avenue Retail Market, is definitely something I would see on Guy Fieri's "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives." I love Italian sandwiches and had two made-to-order sandwiches, both meticulously made, and I was truly given fat sandwiches: a good amount of Italian meats and fresh mozzarella. "Hillary Clinton's Favorite Panini" featured with fresh-cut salami nestled with BEAUTIFULLY smoked mozzarella, sun-dried tomatoes, sweet peppers, and olive oil on Italian seeded bread - I really enjoyed the great, WORTH IT "Hillary Clinton's Favorite Panini"! The "Caprese" sandwich came with fresh mozzarella topped with tomato and basil on focaccia, but was surprisingly weak tasting. One of my least favorite Tomato Bruschetta- at Mike's Deli, to put it simply. I can't recommend this Tomato Bruschetta with too many roasted peppers that overpowered the tiny amount of tomatoes, on chewy sandwich bread felt like a flatbread, and purple olives, why? ”
“ The sandwiches here are solid! The pictures speak for themselves - good portions, good bread, amazing taste. We had a few on Arthur ave last time we were here and Mike's had the best! ”
“ My husband and I have been patronizing Mike's Deli for many yrs now. I pray they continue to be successful in business and quality. We honestly love every dish we've ever ordered. Some of our faves are the "Paula Deen", Cacio e Pepe, and the firecracker calamari. It's so hard with their extensive menu but just know that everything is made FRESH to order. Close your eyes and pick anything! *The dish I would not order again, would be the rice balls. I prefer a rice ball that crisp and hot out of the fryer, rather than reheated. Personal preference ”
